Of Prep, Proposals, and Perfect Timing (Not Mine, His)
God prepares testimonies in the most unexpected ways.
Just when you have polished your proposals, perfected your pitch, and ironed your best suits…
He halts you—right at your “I’ve got this” moment.
So there I was, speech in tow, ready to convince someone why he should invest his hard-earned money into one of my wildest dreams.
I sat at the lounge, waiting for him to finish a prior meeting.
Fidgeting.
Fiddling with my phone.
Reading my concept note for the millionth time.
Waiting has never been my strongest virtue. But when you are in someone else’s office, asking for their time, their ear, and their consideration—you learn to wait.
I asked ChatGPT what a perfect cold pitch would be. The answer? Good.
Helpful.
But did it did nothing to calm the boiling nervousness inside!
I tried to rehearse my lines. I tried to pray and breathe deeply.
But my throat was dry. Desert-dry.
I rummaged through my bag for a sweet, knowing very well there was none.
So I gave myself a pep talk.
What’s the worst that could happen?
He says no?
Well… did I show up? Yes.
Did I prepare? Absolutely.
Did I believe in what I was carrying? 100%.
Woiii. Wapi? 😩
After two full hours of waiting, I stepped out for just a minute—just to grab a drink.
Just to get a break from the tension sitting heavy in the room.
And your guess is as good as mine…
That is exactly when he wrapped up his meeting and walked out asking for me.
😭😭😭
Stay tuned for the end... because you already know,
God’s timing might not be cute—but it is always divine.
And that is life sometimes.
You show up full of fire and strategy, wearing your best hopes and rehearsed brilliance—
only to be reminded that God writes stories in pauses, in detours, in missed moments that are not really missed.
That day did not go the way I planned.
But I showed up.
With faith in my heart, purpose in my palms, and a whisper of courage in my throat.
And if you ask me—that counts for something.
No, scratch that—that counts for everything.
Because purpose is not always in the pitch.
Sometimes, it is in the posture.
Sometimes, it is in the hallway, not the boardroom.
Sometimes, it is not the “yes” that proves your calling—it is the fact that you kept showing up even after a no.
So I will keep showing up.
With my tired yes.
With my borrowed courage.
With my feet sore from knocking and my heart still full enough to believe.
Because even if I miss the moment…
I will never miss my assignment.
Njeri.
