46 and Grateful: A Birthday Reflection from the Finish Line
There are years that add to your age.
And then there are years that add to your soul.
Tomorrow I turn 46.
And this year, I stand taller — not because of a number, but because of the depth of meaning this season has carved into my life.
Just yesterday, I stood on the grounds of the Run for Skills Charity Event — an idea that was once a whisper in my heart, now pulsing with life. Over 200 community members came together with a shared belief: that every young mother deserves the dignity of choice, of opportunity, of hope.
As I watched the first runners cross the finish line, I felt my own soul racing — not with exhaustion, but with elation. For in that moment, I witnessed purpose made visible. The mothers we serve, once on the margins of society, now had a community running on their behalf. Conversations were sparked. Dignity kits were distributed. And perhaps most importantly, we reminded an entire generation of girls that they are not forgotten.
This is why I lead.
This is why I show up.
This is why I run — even when the road is uphill, even when the winds of gatekeeping and ego try to slow the pace.
Turning 46 is not just about celebrating another year. It is about celebrating traction. It is about refusing to let bureaucracy drown impact. It is about valuing genuine connection over empty titles. It is about choosing to walk (and sometimes sprint) in alignment with my calling.
I have learned that not every space is worth staying in. Some rooms may glitter but remain hollow. Some roles may sound impressive but sap your spirit. This year, I gave myself the permission to walk out of rooms that no longer served the mission. I have learned to guard my energy for spaces where transformation is real and lives are truly touched.
The Run for Skills reminded me once again that when we dare to dream, and act with conviction, the ripples can be wider than we imagine.
So here I am:
46 and grateful.
46 and grounded.
46 and more committed than ever to running this race of purpose — for as long as my feet will carry me, and as long as there are voices still waiting to be heard.
To every young mother who needs to know she matters — we are here.
To every community partner who ran alongside us — thank you.
To every fellow dreamer who sometimes grows weary — keep going.
And to myself, on the eve of this birthday:
Run your race, Queen.
Do it with heart.
Do it with joy.
And above all ;
Do it with love.
Happy Birthday Njeri 💗
